Here is a new interview with Fabian Bourzat made by Ukrainian “Segodnya” (you can find a version in Russian here: http://www.segodnya.ua/…/francuzskaya-zvezda-figurnogo-kat…)!
Fabian Bourzat: “I don’t like sad people, they make me sad”
The French figu re skating star talks about going solo in coaching, working with Ukrainians Nazarova and Nikitin, a possible collaboration with Nathalie Pechalat, and meeting Jean Dujardin, remembering Denis Ten, learning to let go, and also about his shoes and favourite programs and costumes.
– How did you decide to come to Ukraine with Sasha and Maxim?
– We’ve worked together in Detroit for like three years. It’s a very interesting team, I love working with them. Their quality matches my vision of skating. They’re creative and original. They have a lot of flaws, but they want to bring something different to skating. And that’s what I love about them. So, when I quit my job in the US, they told me that they were moving back to Ukraine and they needed someone to get them ready for the season. I was on vacation at that time and said, “Why not”. And here I am.

“When I am watching skating and someone is talking about something that is irrelevant and not connected to the program I am watching I am like, ‘What are they talking about?’ It is so annoying. There is a way to cover skating — it is important to tell the stories without being negative or critical. You do have to be honest. A bad skate is a bad skate. Call it a tough skate or whatever you want to call it — but you don’t have to be mean. I try to choose the right words and I think that resonates with people. I have a huge responsibility to be honest and encouraging. The kids get off the ice and they go and watch their video immediately. They hear what I had to say, so I feel a responsibility to support what their coaches a re teaching them, the parents who are supporting them and the money being invested in them. Skaters are not naïve. They know if they had a good skate or not and if they hear from us what their coaches are telling them — ‘don’t give up, here are some little things to improve’ — then there is something for them to build on.”— Ted Barton on why he doesn’t talk during a performance, but recap the program after it is finished.
Carolane Soucisse and Shane Firus have withdrawn from the FD (I assume they only intended to practice their RD) so there will be no head-to-head with FB/S.
The main thing that I recall from high school English is that, after you reach a certain age, the curriculum decides that books with happy endings and likable characters are stupid and babyish and that you’re only allowed dysfunction, oppression, and misery in your literature from now on.

Seems like this will be the year of ear splitting accordion music.
Laurence Fournier-Beaudry & Nikolaj Sorensen skate their Rhythm Dance at Quebec Summer Provincials.

It’s a bit disheartening that all competition boards on the skating forums are now behind paywalls.
Inevitable I suppose, but it decreases the accessibility.
I have membership on FSU. Is the membership on GoldenSkate worth it?
Very interesting video of Hurtado/Khaliavin showing practicing the same choreography on the floor and then on the ice. For the clips they shared, they are skating to ‘Sign of the Times’ by Harry Styles.
Kaitlyn can even make this look cute!
“I hope Nathan will one day skate a more choreo focused and less technical Mao’s Last Dancer for an ice show or a gala. It had a lot of beautiful moments and promise before he started changing the jump layout and stripping the choreo away, I’d like to see it in its full jumpless glory“
Definitely felt this
Yes this. I also would like perhaps a dance team or pairs team to use Mao’s Last Dancer soundtrack - the music is brilliant.
