The reason is three fold: One, there are more tourists here than any other Vancouver Island destination. Two, the areas around Victoria are considered a great region to not only see Humpback whales but also Orcas. Many Victoria whale watching companies have a few larger boats with onboard restrooms for the comfort of their guests. Francis Rattenbury and his crew made an effort to use local materials, resources and expertise when building the Parliament Buildings, as during this time in B. It was important to both him and the government to support local businesses. Granite rock foundations were brought in from nearby Nelson Island, the site facades were locally imported from Haddington Island, and most of the local brick, lime and Douglas Fir were accumulated from areas around Vancouver Island. The inside of the buildings are just as grand as the outside, which features a statue of Queen Victoria on the front lawn.

When I started my Pilates class a few weeks ago, I came away smiling after an hour of gentle and mindful stretching to soft music. I had a sense that, for me personally, I had found a workout regime that was right for my body. So it does not surprise me that Pilates has become one of the most popular exercises for older women. Many of us are taking classes to build strength, reduce back pain, lose weight, or to improve coordination and balance. It has some similarities to yoga because it focuses on principles related to concentration, control and centering of the body.
Exploring the Benefits of Pilates for Women Our Age Some of the most important benefits of Pilates for women over 60 are related to the fact that its discipline builds strength in the core muscles. Here are a few reasons that Pilates is such a powerful exercise option for women like us: We sit when we are working, watching TV, eating dinner and using our computer.
We all know that being sedentary is one of the worst things we can do for our health. You can start doing Pilates at almost any level of fitness and cardiovascular strength. Many women over 60 have mentioned to me that they look and feel more confident as a result of doing Pilates. This makes sense as Pilates helps make your back stronger, helping you stand up straighter. Pilates has positive effects on many aspects of how you carry yourself throughout the day.
Build Stronger Bones As I wrote previously, older women are often at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis.

Thanks to everyone who commented in a civil and respectful manner. I am surprised at the constant popularity of this post. However, remember that it was written in March , after I left Vancouver mostly heartbroken and disillusioned. Immigration can be an issue, but racism is barbaric and is swiftly removed. This post is entirely my own opinion, based on my personal experience and has no claim to objectivity.
It just represents my truth. Please give it a look. There are beautiful mountains and glass skyscrapers and the ocean. Everyone is a hippie and people are friendly and mellow because they all do yoga and run while breathing clean, wholesome ocean air.

Stroller can go as far as first lookout at about 1 km. I was happy to have my hiking poles. Went as far as 2nd high lookout at the 5km mark. People should not smoke when it’s dry. Downside Some steep sections. Ripple Rock trail By Posted By: The trail is has always been in excellent shape that offers terrain technical enough to make for an interesting run even after 15 years of me using the trail. A couple years back some knob s in a local government position decided that their brittle knees couldn’t handle the rock step at the end of the trail in my opinion the best part of the trail and bolted an ugly metal staircase on top of it.
No one asked me or anyone I know if we wanted this waste of tax dollars in the way of our trail. In my opinion the stairs are more difficult than the rock step anyways. After reaching the end of this trail our group was rewarded by seeing whales breaching the water. Downside Needs a larger sign designating the trail area or at least a sign further than M to warn you that the trail is coming up.
Contributions Map Startup Funding – How to Find an Angel Investor in Vancouver Several times a week, entrepreneurs ask me how to find angel investors to fund their startup. This is a summary of the best practices for finding angel investors in Vancouver. Unlike venture capitalists – who are easy to find – very few angels have websites or can be found in directories. Most maintain low profiles online – partly to reduce unsolicited requests for financing. The most efficient way to fund a startup is to present at a local angel investor meeting.

Vancouver, like Seattle and Portland, is a choice destination for craft brew lovers; there are over a dozen local breweries within the City of Vancouver, and even more around the Lower Mainland. Most Vancouver breweries have taprooms, so you can sample the beers, and are generally open until 11 pm, so you can make a night of it.
DL West acres A historic log barn, a corral and a number of old out-buildings are located adjacent to the creek at the west side of this lot. Where Lewis creek leaves the property there is a waterfall which by the original settlers was used to produce electricity. The edge of this lot is suited very well for building a home with views of the Rockies to the east, and a view over Wasa Lake with the Purcell Mountains and Kimberley ski hill in the distance.
On the creek 2 pump houses 50 hp and 30 hp can provide irrigation to the land. DL East This lot is relatively level. It rises significantly toward the North boundary into the forest. In the southeast it rises on the south side of Lazy Lake Road. Lewis Creek divides this property in two. The driveway to the farmhouse crosses the creek by way of a wooden bridge. A 20 HP irrigation pump is installed on the creek. This lot straddles Lazy Lake Road.

Dating over 50 with EliteSingles When you find yourself single after a certain age, it can certainly be jolting. There’s a good chance that this wasn’t part of the game plan and it can be all too easy to feel like the only fool in the pool (or at least the only ‘normal’ one who’s dating over 50).
It’s history is intriguing. The Imo, a Norwegian ship, was behind schedule and in a hurry to leave. The Mont-Blanc, a French munitions ship, had arrived from New York the day before but was held back having arrived too late to pass through the submarine nets. Allowed through the next morning, the Mont Blanc was not flying the mandated red flag to identify it was carrying highly combustible materials: In those days ships in the inner harbour were known to sometimes pass each other on the wrong side.
Of course had the Imo known what deadly cargo the Mont Blanc was carrying it is unlikely it would have pressed to pass the Mont Blanc on the wrong side even though the Mont Blanc had signalled back that it was not changing course. There was a collision and an uncontainable fire broke out on the Mont Blanc. Panicked, the Mont Blanc captain and crew abandoned ship in a rowboat to a nearby island leaving the vessel to drift.
As the burning ship slowly crept toward the downtown area a crowd gathered at the harbourfront enjoying the unusual spectacle. The black rain of carbon and jetsam fell heavily on the city setting it afire, killing 2, people and wounding thousands in a city of 50, The explosion was heard kilometres away and fragments of the ship landed 5 kilometres away. The old terminal Pier 2 was damaged by the explosion and was subsequently rebuilt. A second fire destroyed it.

In November , the Hootsuite dashboard expanded its offering to support Facebook and LinkedIn, and the capability to use Twitter Lists. Localized versions of Hootsuite are available in Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and German, and 50 more languages are planned to be added.

Elaine Young And Erin James-abra Date Published Last Edited March 20, British Columbia is Canada’s most westerly province, and is a mountainous area whose population is mainly clustered in its southwestern corner. British Columbia is a land of diversity and contrast within small areas. Coastal landscapes, characterized by high, snow-covered mountains rising above narrow fjords and inlets, contrast with the broad forested upland of the central interior and the plains of the northeast. The intense “Britishness” of earlier times is referred to in the province’s name, which originated with Queen Victoria and was officially proclaimed in The so-called “Lower Mainland,” dominated by metropolitan Vancouver , contains over 60 per cent of the province’s population and is its commercial, cultural and industrial centre.
The vast interior is dominated by parallel mountain ranges and its population spreads north—south along valleys, notably the Okanagan and the Kootenay. John in the Peace River Lowland. Each of these towns are centres of separate sub-regions and depend more on world markets than local markets. Much of the development of resource-based economic activity in the province has been concerned with linking these separate regions together into a broader provincial economy.
The northern half of the province is virtually uninhabited north of Prince Rupert and is cut off from the Pacific Ocean by the Alaska Panhandle. The Peace River Lowland of the northeast is actually an extension of the Interior Plains and more closely resembles neighbouring Alberta than the rest of the province. The Rocky Mountains rise abruptly about 1, —1, m above the foothills of Alberta, and some of their snow- and ice-covered peaks tower more than 3, m above sea level; the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson , west of Jasper, AB, is 3, m.
